Meadow Lodge was built in 1910 for F. W. Thompson, of Montreal, at that time President of the Ogilvie Milling Company, of Manitoba. It was designed by Edward and W. S. Maxwell, of Montreal, one of the many St. Andrews projects. Mr. Thompson did not have much opportunity to enjoy his palatial summer home. He died of "acute dyspepsia" (stomach ulcers) in 1912. His family continued to sojourn in St. Andrews for many years. Much later the property passed into the hands of the James Dunn foundation, which rented it out to hockey legends such as Scotty Bowman and Jacques Plante during a period when the St. Andrews Arena was home to a well-known hockey school.
