Constructed c. 1820. The original home of John Treadwell, block and spar maker and ship's chandler. In the early part of the century the shipping business tended to be concentrated in this section of the waterfront. Between 1830 and 1868 the Treadwell House was also the location of the Custom House, and between 1939 and 1975 the location of the Beacon Press, seen in the left hand of the building.
