Thomas R. Wren owned a drugstore at town center, currently Sweet Harvest Market, and had a brother, Ranby, who was a sea-captain on the Great Lakes. This seems to have been an occupation that ran in the family; there are references in the 19th-century local papers to a Captain Wren, and a number of graves in the Rural Cemetery to this family, which went back to the early history of the town. The Wren House is one of the older buildings in the town, as evidenced by the split-lath showing on one side where a window has not been replaced. The bay windows would have been a later addition. Underneath the faux-cinderblock foundation is a solid structure of red shale.
